Golf Academy
Taunton and Pickeridge golf club continues to grow with excellent coaching from Jason Avery and Ali Williams with the support of Val Hayward,Jacky and John Ford & Jill Paul, working alongside the Junior section and their coordinator Steph Childs. The academy provides a year round programme of coaching for Juniors and beginner golfers both at the club and also via outreach programmes at local schools and sports clubs.

Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club – Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct has been designed to ensure that all members of the club enjoy their experience of membership to the full. It helps to establish the standards of behaviour that members can expect from one another and thus contributes to creating the friendly, welcoming and convivial environment of which the club is rightly proud.
Members should:
- Behave towards their fellow members, guests and staff with respect and dignity, treating others as they would expect to be treated. Members should respect gender, cultural, age or racial differences and avoid discrimination on any grounds.
- Whilst on the course, particularly when playing their ball, consider their own safety and the safety of others as of paramount importance; looking out for themselves and taking care not to endanger others. Members are also encouraged to report any health and safety concerns to club management.
- When in the club house, restaurant, bar, car park or on the course, act in a reasonable and appropriate manner at all times, taking care not to use any language or conduct which may be considered as abusive, disruptive, offensive or impact on others adversely.
- Ensure that they have a sound knowledge of the rules of golf, etiquette and standards of fair play, adhering to such, whilst at the club or representing it at other venues.
- Comply with the rules of the club and adhere to the club’s dress code and its policy on the use of social media.
- Follow any reasonable guidance or instruction given by club employees or officials and ensure that any feedback or comment regarding the course, the performance of staff or the quality of service/ goods received is delivered courteously to an appropriate club official or member of management.
NB. Please understand that any serial or serious breach of this Code of Conduct may render the member concerned subject to the club’s agreed disciplinary process.

SafeGolf is a partnership of UK golf bodies committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.
Taunton & Pickeridge is a very friendly, welcoming and forward-thinking club and the Safe Golf award helps us to spread that message and to tell people that children are safe and secure here and that we understand about beginner golfers.”
The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport. Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.
SafeGolf is firstly, a website – www.safegolf.org – through which anyone with a concern about the welfare of a player, or the behaviour or practice of a coach, volunteer, organiser, parent or a player, can contact the lead safeguarding officer at their national governing body.
Secondly, it is the safeguarding standard England Golf promote to all their affiliated clubs to ensure all clubs provide a safe and positive experience to children and young people whilst playing golf. The PGA are also using the standards to apply to all their PGA professional Coaches.

The Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club aims to:
• Provide a safe environment for children and young people participating in
golfing activities and try to ensure that they enjoy the experience.
• Ensure robust systems are in place to manage any concerns or allegations.
• Support adults (staff, volunteers, PGA Professionals, coaches, members and
visitors) to understand their roles and responsibilities regarding their duty of
care and protection of children.
• Provide appropriate level training, support and resources for staff, volunteers
& coaches to make informed and confident responses to specific safeguarding
issues and fulfill their role effectively.
• Ensure that children and their parents/carers are informed and consulted and,
where appropriate, fully involved in decisions that affect them.
• Reassure parents and carers that all children and young people will receive
the best care possible whilst participating in club activities and communicate
Policy and Procedure to them through website/letter/consents.
Responsibilities and implementation
The Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club will seek to promote the principles of
safeguarding children by:
• Reviewing their policy and procedures every three years or whenever there is
a major change in legislation. Guidance from England Golf will be sought as
part of the review process.
• Conducting a risk assessment of club activities with regard to safeguarding
and take appropriate action to address the identified issues within suitable
timescales.

• Using appropriate recruitment procedures to assess the suitability of
volunteers and staff working with children and young people in line with
guidance from England Golf.
• Following National Governing Body (NGB) procedures to report concerns and
allegations about the behaviour of adults and ensuring that all staff,
volunteers, parents and children are aware of these procedures.
• Directing staff, volunteers & coaches to appropriate safeguarding training and
learning opportunities, where this is appropriate to their role.
