Upcoming Junior Events

There are some busy weeks ahead for the Junior Section of T&P. On Sunday 21st May we are at Worlebury GC for the Somerset Junior Jamboree. Taking 4 players who will play in an 18 hole stableford competition against juniors from 8 other clubs. The winner is the team with the best 3 scores out of 4 counting, and the 4th card coming into play if there is a tie. Worlebury were the 2022 winners.

On 4th June we are hosting a Somerset West Division League Match with a team of 5 T&P players representing the club and playing against juniors from Enmore, Worlebury, Oake Manor, Mendip Spring and Burnham & Berrow. It is stableford format with HI up to 36.4 playing 18 holes and 36.5 to 54 playing 9 holes. At the end of the season the club with the most points plays off against the winner from the East Division to become Somerset Junior League 2023 Winners.

On 11th June there is another league match, this time away at Oake Manor.

We continue to run qualifying and trophy competitions at Junior Club Night on Mondays, when the tee is reserved from 4-6pm, and we have been pleased to welcome some new juniors into the section recently.

Results and photos will be posted on the website and our social media pages of all the above events.

Somerset Junior County Championships 2023

On 7th May at Worlebury GC the 2023 Somerset Junior County Championships took place and T&P Juniors did exceptionally well. In the Under 14 age group the outright Champion was Peter McGivern, who defended his title after winning in 2022. Finley Pyke came 2nd and Tate Sinfield-Day was 8th. Tate won best Nett too with a score of 65. Peter scored 73 gross and Finley 77 gross. Brilliant result boys!
In the Under 16 age group our own Morgan Couch won best Nett and came 11th in the gross scores. Well done to all the T&P Juniors who represented T&P on the day. See below for Under 14 Winners and Morgan bottom right as Under 16 Nett winner.

2023 Captains’ Drive In

Despite the competition being cancelled due to the rain we have had this week, the ceremonial past Captains’ Putt Out and 2023 Captains’ Drive In took place today and the sun was at least shining brightly for the start of Ben’s year as Juniors Captain. Here he is alongside the Club Captain, Ladies Captain and Seniors Vice Captain. Here’s to an enjoyable year Ben.

2023 Pre-Season Training Session

Jason has kindly offered to run a pre-season training session on Thursday 23rd March for those Juniors who play 9/18 holes. Come along to the Practice Range in time for the session which runs from 4.30 – 6pm. The season starts on 3rd April so this will be a great way to get your “golf head” on and meet up again with other Juniors.

Good luck to our 2023 Junior Captain – Ben Newman

Happy New Year from the T&P Juniors Team.

We would like to wish Good Luck and a fun year to our 2023 Junior Captain, Ben Newman, and thank you to Freddie Eglin who will be supporting him as Vice Captain this year.

2022 Junior Prize Giving

Saturday 19th November was an evening to celebrate with those Juniors who won trophies and awards over the 2022 season. Only 1 Junior could not be present and he, Freddie, had a very good excuse, namely being in Spain playing in the Finals Week of The Junior European Open! The Winners all looked very smart and proud and we hope everyone, Juniors and parents alike, had an enjoyable evening.

The occasion was also an opportunity to announce the 2023 Junior Captain and Vice Captain. Ben Newman will be Junior Captain and Freddie Eglin his Vice Captain. We hope you both have a great year in these roles.

Junior Team Pro-Am

T&P PRO-AM
FRIDAY 1st JULY 2022

The 2022 Junior Team will consist of 3 players from The Junior Section who have returned the best stableford scores in 18 hole qualifying competitions to be held on Mon 6th, 13th and 20th June.

A player’s 2 best aggregate scores out of the 3 stableford comps will count. Hopefully you will be able to play on all 3 dates but you need to take part and complete a card in at least 2 of them in order to be in with a chance of getting a place. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined on count back.

Please note the Pro-Am is held on a Friday and is a wonderful opportunity for Juniors to play alongside a field of good golfers in what has always been a fun and competitive day.

Spring newsletter

The season is well underway with lots of Juniors turning up at Junior Club night on Mondays, both at Ali’s Fox Cub training and also, for those more experienced, to play 9 & 18 holes on the course. There have been a good few bank holidays but we have a clear run of mondays now until the end of August and we have now received the course rating for the 9 hole course which makes handing in a card for 9 holes a lot easier.

The Junior Texas Scramble at the end of April raised over £100 for Junior funds and was well supported.
Two trophy competitions have been held in May, The Presidents Cup and Tony Churchill Shield, and these were won by Alfie Sully and Finley Pike respectively. 1st and 2nd place winners will have money credited to their Pro shop accounts for these trophy competitions. The next one is on Mon 6th June – see Diary on website. On another related note, the juniors are starting to fill in their cards correctly which is great but if anyone is unsure about how to do their card/score correctly just ask either of the Junior Organisers present on club nights.
T&P Juniors are in a Somerset Summer Knock out competition and played Wells at Home on 22nd May. It involved 3 singles matches and our Juniors won, thereby going forward to the next round where they play Wheathill.
A few of our Juniors play for Somerset and are doing exceptionally well. To keep up-to-date with everything at County level you can view events/results on https://www.somersetgolfunion.co.uk/ and https://www.somersetjuniorsgolf.co.uk
